Last Tuesday, crime struck the York campus again.
On a quiet night on November 6, the normally peaceful campus experienced a dramatic—and violent—turn of events.
In the wee hours of the morning, police responded to a call from Sentinel Road and The Pond Road, just steps away from the Quad, wherein they were investigating a physical fight that had broken out.
Police arrived at around 2:40 a.m., and news began to break at roughly 5:30 a.m., the same day.
A TPS Media Relations spokesperson, Gary Long, reported that the 9-1-1 call to police stated that the caller had witnessed about 10 people fighting outside.
As well, they would also be walking into a double stabbing.
As a result of the incident, two men were injured and immediately rushed to the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. However, their injuries were not deemed life-threatening.
No arrests were made at the scene, as a group of men were reported to have fled the area. According to police, they fled in what appeared to be either a silver or grey Honda.
Currently, police have gathered photos of the crime scene for further evidence.
While this event comes as an unfortunate shock to the York community, sadly it is not an isolated incident.
This incident follows one of many that have occurred on campus, as well as near the Sentinel and The Pond Road intersection. Earlier this year, two victims were attacked with an eight-inch machete close to the Village, and over a month ago, a laptop was stolen in a cafe at the Quad.
Despite the dangerous nature of the crime, York’s Security has not released a bulletin to inform students of the crime.
Those with any information regarding the case are encouraged to come forward and call TPS’ 31 Division, at (416) 808-3100.
At the moment of publication, the TPS and York’s Media Relations could not be reached for comment.
