No rest for the wicked as crime rears its head during the holidays

Crime continued at York as the university issued three security bulletins while numerous other incidents in December were also reported.
Two armed robberies were reported in the Village on December 4 and 29 and an indecent act was reported at Scott Library on December 12. No injuries were reported for any of the three incidents.
The robberies were reportedly near 340 Assiniboine Road, and Troyer Avenue.
According to a bulletin issued on December 5, the Assiniboine robbery included three suspects who approached a community member with a handgun, demanding personal property.
A piece of personal electronic equipment was turned over.
The three suspects were described as male. The first was described as five foot nine, in his 20’s, medium build, glasses, square jaw, wearing a black jacket with a grey hoodie underneath. The second was described as six-foot-three, thin build, dark jacket, with baggy pants. The third was described as five-foot-six, thin build, wearing dark clothes.
Toronto police were contacted and are investigating the incidents, with enhanced high visibility patrols for the area have been initiated.
According to the bulletin issued December 30, two suspects approached and overpowered a community member, taking his cell phone. A handgun was displayed as the suspects left the scene.
The bulletin describes one of the suspects as male, skinny build, approximately 160 pounds, 23 to 24 years of age, five-foot-ten to five-foot-eleven, dressed in dark clothing with one suspect also described as wearing a beige baggy jacket with a dark hoodie underneath.
In-between the robberies, an indecent act reportedly happened on the fourth floor of Scott Library in an open study area, on the south west side.
The suspect was described as male, 23 to 24 years of age, five-foot-five, medium build, black spiky short hair, reportedly wearing a white “Addidas” polo or sweater, with grey sweatpants carrying a black bag or backpack.
York security was in attendance and “engaged in a comprehensive search for the suspect.”
Aldo Altomare, director, York University Security Services, couldn’t name a rationale for the recent streak of indecent exposure incidents. Altomare says York security is working with police partners to identify potential suspects.
Other incidents that didn’t call for security bulletins from included an assault in the Underground restaurant on December 5 and another indecent exposure on December 7.
The incident at the Underground involved a community member sustaining facial injuries following an assault by a pub patron who was ejected for excessive drunkenness. The suspect was identified as a non-community member and was arrested by police.
An indecent exposure on December 7 also occurred.
According to the Weekly Security Incident Log, security responded to a report of an unknown male exposing himself inside a basement level male washroom. The individual was identified as a non-community member and was removed from campus.
Altomare notes that no further action was warranted due to the details of the investigation.
“A bulletin was not issued due to the actions of the suspect being identified, interviewed, and trespassed resulting in a lowered risk for the community,” he adds.
