York officials are repairing an area on the second floor of the William Small Centre parking garage after a fire broke out on February 12, at approximately 3 p.m.
Joanne Rider of York media says due to the fire, the garage floor needs to be repaired and waterproofed.
The waterproofing will seal the pavement and get rid of any cracks and holes that could create water seepage. A fire erupted when the front tires of a York employee’s vehicle burst, creating a sound similar to an explosion. There were no injuries reported, although damage was caused to two other vehicles.
According to Rider, no damage estimate can be provided at this point in time and the university does not have a time frame for when the repairs will be completed.
Toronto Police Services and Toronto Fire Services responded to the call at 3:13 p.m. The fire was extinguished before 4:05 p.m., when people were allowed back into the building.
