Vouch a match-making app, has decided to disseminate fake love letters on campus, in an attempt to spread word of their dating application.
“Amy” leaves multitudes of letters around Scott Library, requesting “Jay,” a man she instantly fell for but never had the opportunity to speak with, to join Vouch to be reunited with her, and for the rest of us to spread the word on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtag #HelpAFindJ.
Daniel Malinov, co-founder of Vouch, a Toronto start-up, says although the characters in their missed connections campaign are fictional, they are based on real people.
“The missed connections campaign was actually one of the inspirations for Vouch,” says Malinov. “Although Amy and Jay are fictional characters, they are based on real people who met in first year, but couldn’t find each other again until fourth year when a common friend ended up connecting them.”
The Vouch app analyzes your Facebook network to find singles you have common friends with and allows you to play Cupid for your friends. The app is free and available on Apple or Android devices.
Malinov says the premise behind Vouch is that people prefer to date within their extended social circles.
“Vouch helps our users connect to all the singles their friends know without having to wait to be in the right place at the right time with the right friend to make an introduction,” says Malinov.
“In other words, we take natural dating behaviour and make it significantly more efficient—or at least we hope to, as this is our vision.”
