The Career Centre will be hosting this year’s first career fair next Thursday, January 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Building. No student registration is necessary to attend the event and meet employers recruiting York students for full-time jobs, part-time jobs, internships, and summer employment.
The York University Career Centre encourages students to attend employment recruitment sessions, which are being held from mid-January through the end of March.
The sessions are a way to connect with employers who can answer questions students might have about career opportunities, or what kind of experience and skills are necessary to be recruited. Career Centre staff recommends that students don’t engage in “window shopping” for jobs, but instead prepare themselves in advance to find which employers they are interested in approaching before they attend the fair.
Students should also prepare a thoughtful list of questions to ask employer representatives in an effort to demonstrate interest in the organization.
Update your resume in advance, and if you can, arrange for a resume review in the Career Centre before you attend the fair. It’s helpful to know what kind of job you want so you can tailor your resume to a specific organization.
