A survey conducted by Excalibur says 60 per cent of York students do not support Rob Ford since he admitted to having smoked crack cocaine, followed by the release of a video showing the mayor intoxicated.
As to why, students cited a variety of reasons such as his unresolved issues and his work ethic.
One student wrote that it was Ford’s “racist, homophobic, and xenophobic remarks,” while another student wrote Ford “hasn’t done anything positive for the city.”
The survey, with a sample size of 153 students, also found approximately 43 per cent of students believe he should resign as mayor while 13 per cent believe he should go to rehab. However, 20 per cent of students surveyed felt he should continue his duties as mayor.
The survey follows recent polls done by Forum Research, which found 59 per cent of Torontonians want Ford to quit as a result of his ongoing crack video scandal. The poll also found, however, that Ford’s job approval rating remains at 43 per cent despite the scandal.
According to Excalibur’s survey, 45 per cent of students at York would not vote for Ford in the 2014 municipal election, while 21 per cent will not vote at all. Ten per cent of students, however, say they will vote for Ford, which is a two per cent increase from the last election, according to the survey.
The survey is based on both online responses and in-person handouts to students at York.
