An alarmed student notified York Security on November 6 after a student allegedly pulled out a utility blade to sharpen a pencil in Curtis Lecture Hall.
After York Security Services secured the area, police arrived on scene shortly after to confiscate the blade. They turned it over to York Security “for safe keeping, and normal operations were resumed,” according to Joanne Rider of York University media relations.
After the incident, classes in Curtis Lecture Hall resumed as normal, and it is believed that the student returned to class.
At 4:15 p.m. that same day, York University’s official Twitter account (@YorkUniversity) tweeted: “The situation in Curtis Lecture Hall has been resolved and classes are resuming as scheduled. #yorku.”
One student replied to the comment, tweeting: “I was legit scared for my life.” Another replied, “I was legit worried.”
Consequences at the moment are unspecified as Toronto Police could not be reached for comment. No arrests have been made.
