The York Federation of Students announced on its website that the A$AP Rocky concert scheduled for September 18 has been cancelled due to allegations the artist assaulted a woman during one of his shows.
A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Myers, was scheduled to perform next week at the Rexall Centre for Yorkfest.
Jessica Thyriar, president of YFS, could not be reached for a comment as of publication.
The alleged assault took place on September 1 during the Made in America festival in Philadelphia.
According to a report on MTV, Myers was walking through a crowd of fans who were tugging at his clothes, and as the rapper turned to swat them away, he made contact with a woman’s face.
The woman reported that she suffered from whiplash and filed a case with the District Attorney. Myers was charged with a misdemeanor. In a press released on the YFS website, Thyriar says the YFS board of directors has decided that this event cannot proceed until this matter is resolved and that this decision should not be construed as a suggestion that YFS has any knowledge of the incident or has a view on the innocence or guilt of the artist.
Yorkfest, which hosted Lupe Fiasco last year and Nas in 2011, will now have to find a replacement artist to perform on short notice.
