Streeters: do you think your degree will help you get a job?

Umair Maqsood
Second year
mathematics for Commerce
“I am majoring in mathematics for commerce, and it has a large scope in the future. So yes, I do think it’s a practical degree.”
Nathan Jackson
Second year
JD
“I’m doing my JD. On the spectrum, it’s more on the practical end, but it’s like any degree these days. So if there are no jobs available than practicality is limited by that fact alone. Even though law is safer than other degrees, it is still being hit by limited job prospects.”
Amogh Bangalore
Fourth year,
Law and Society
“I think my degree is practical, but at the same time, I don’t think it is, because it is so broad. In terms of jobs, I think with an undergraduate degree in law and society, it would be difficult to get a job because you’re not exactly qualified for anything.”
Chris Puckett
Fifth year,
Law and Society,
Minoring in political science
“Law and political science are practical. Political science is practical because it deals with law and public policy. A lot of ongoing issues are related to public policy so it’s interesting to study these laws and who is bringing them into effect. You can work with the government as well.”
Dharav Patel
Firstt year,
Kinesiology
“I don’t think you can get a job right away because you would need graduate degrees to get higher paying jobs.”
