Talks between the university and the York University Student Centre (YUSC) board continued last January 26 regarding the future of the Student Centre.
The university and the Student Centre spoke of reaching a memorandum of understanding between the two groups, which would consolidate a referendum that would be brought to the York student population sometime next year.
The referendum is set to ask students what they would like to see in a new Student Centre, including things such as constructing additional levels or choosing a different location.
According to Scott Jarvis, executive director of the Student Centre, the university and the board are working together to knead out the details and legalities of the memorandum.
Once the details have been worked out, the memorandum must be brought to both the York Federation of Students (YFS) and the Graduate Students Association (GSA) to be vetted by the groups. After this, the Student Centre Board will act as the final signing power on the memorandum.
Jarvis expects that the final sign-off will occur sometime in mid-February.
