An alternative to the York Keele campus Appletree Medical Centre has opened up off-campus by the York Village, promising quality service for students and community members alike.
The new clinic, Four Winds Medical, is located at Four Winds Drive and Sentinel Rd. in the University City Mall, and has been open for about a month as a walk-in and family clinic.
Run by Dr. Sarit Shuldiner, the clinic – which is currently looking to expand its operating hours to accommodate student schedules – opened in response to an identified need for a family physician in the area.

Clinic manager Dee Bhasin said that students – especially foreign students – have reported having trouble with Appletree medical clinic at York, and that the doctors at this clinic are “certainly more considerate than that.”
Excalibur previously reported on international students being charged a co-pay fee of $15 at Appletree medical clinic despite the fact they were covered under the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP).
Dr. Dan Somogyi, a clinic employee, explained the new clinic does not plan to charge extra for international students.
“Our plan is not [to charge extra costs] at this stage. There is reimbursement already for international students based on their insurance and coverage,” he said.
Bhasin mentioned that the clinic is planning on bringing in a chiropractor – a service Appletree Medical Centre eliminated earlier this year.
“I think the service [at Appletree] is pretty exaggerated and the wait times are very long,” he said. “In terms of a clinic, we are certainly geared more towards getting patients through quickly.”
Dr. Somogyi explained the number of students coming to the clinic has been increasing.
“I think what happens once the students get the service and they realize that they have a friendly physician that will answer to their needs, they tell their friends who come along,” he said. “It’s really expanded that way.”

Excalibur made several attempts to contact Appletree Medical Clinic for comment, but was unable to receive a response as of publication.
