A week after four robberies occurred at Keele campus, two more people were robbed on campus.
The most recent robbery, on Nov. 1, resembled an Oct. 22 incident where a York student was robbed of his cell phone while waiting for the Viva bus.
According to Toronto police, four black males allegedly approached the victim as he was seated on the bus, grabbed the cell phone and fled the scene.
The suspects were last seen fleeing on foot towards Harry Sherman Crowe Co-Op. The suspect who allegedly took the phone from the student was described as having a medium build, short dark hair, wearing a dark purple hoodie with a gold- coloured pattern and dark blue, baggy jeans.
Louis St-Amour, a third-year digital media student, was the victim of the Oct. 22 robbery; he was also waiting for the Viva bus when an unknown male robbed him of his iPhone 4 cell phone.
“I was on the phone, he came behind me and grabbed the phone out of my hand.”
St-Amour, a freelance application developer for Apple, is thinking of cre- ating a special identification number and built-in support system that would help keep track of all stolen smart phone devices.
“What it comes down to is recovery of stolen property and elimination of the resale market,” he said.
St. Amour told Excalibur that he attempted to track down his phone by using Mobile Me application; he was unable to get a clear signal, which he could’ve used to locate the exact coordinates of the phone.
In St-Amour’s case, the robbery happened so quickly that he did not have a chance to get a good look at the robber’s face.
“It was so fast I didn’t even feel a thing and he was off like a shot.”
Another robbery occurred Oct. 29 when a non-community member was walking near Danby Woods and was allegedly approached by three males who demanded his wallet.
According to York Security Services, one of the suspects is described as West Indian, about 22 to 23 years of age, wearing a black hoodie. The suspect fled by a getaway car last seen to be heading toward Keele St. before turning south.
Of the six robberies that occurred during the past two weeks on Keele campus, only one case resulted in two arrests.
