York University is launching a new website that will allow students to track their involvement in extracurricular activities late October.
Using a website model designed by Purdue University in Indiana, York will soon have a website that links all on-campus clubs and events onto one server provided by CollegiateLink.
“It helps out clubs and allows them to interconnect,” said project leader Michael Payton. “It provides a single place for student clubs and organizations to advertise without the costs of postering.”
Once registered, students will be able to track their own extracurricular activities and have new clubs and events suggested to them based on information about general interest.
“We want to see students getting involved in clubs and sports [and] developing a healthy balance of academic and personal workloads,” said Payton. “This tool will help us to do that. It motivates people to get involved because it lets them know their experience counts for something.”
The steering committee, charged with outlining the website’s broader scope and making decisions on how it should be showcased, are composed of York groups such as alumni affairs, the registrar’s office and the communications department.
