N.E.R.D was one of many performers who drew a big crowd to the Downsview Park YorkFest concert last week as part of York’s annual Welcome Week festivities.
Vanessa Hunt, vice-president of campus life for the York Federation of Students (YFS), said the concert was a success, with about 4,000 attendees.
The event boasted performances by N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams, Isis from Thunderheist, Keys N Krates and Cool Man Cool. “I’ve loved [Pharell Williams] forever,” said second-year kinesiology and health science student Joseph Ottaviano. “When I was ten years old, I bought [his] first album. [Pharrell Williams] is a god,” he added.
The concert finished at midnight. Shuttle buses to Vari Hall were provided for students who did not have their own means of transportation. “The fact that [YFS] had the shuttle buses is good, but I wish [they were] bigger buses,” said Ross Smith, a third-year criminology student.
