The Lions women’s soccer team put up a fight this weekend against their visiting opponents: the Western Mustangs and the Brock Badgers. Despite their best efforts, the Lions walked off the pitch with a 0-0 tie at the end of both matches.
The game on Friday, September 13 against the Western Mustangs saw the Lions make more shots on the Mustangs’ net than their opponent, forcing Mustangs’ keeper Megan Girardi to work hard to block the Lions’ shots.
On Sunday, September 15, the Lions made shot after shot on the Badgers’ net, but they could not get any of their eight shots on goal past Badgers’ goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo. The Lions’ strong defensive effort prevented the Badgers from scoring any goals of their own. The Badgers were only to make five shots total, two of which were on the Lions net.
The Lions now sit tied with the Badgers for fifth in the OUA West with six points and a current season record of 1-1-3.
The Lions will be back at Alumni Field on Sunday, October 6 to host the Waterloo Warriors at 6 p.m.. Until then, they will be on the road to take on Laurier, Guelph, McMaster, and Brock.
