The Lions men’s and women’s volleyball teams were on the road this passed weekend, though they just had to go a few kilometres down the 401, as they were taking on their local rivals, the Ryerson Rams, on Saturday afternoon, to resume their OUA campaigns.
Unfortunately, both the men and women were defeated by their Ram counterparts, with the women losing by three sets to one, and the men losing by three sets to two.
The women played first, with Ryerson winning the first set 25-21. The Lions, however, fought back to win a close second set 27-25 to tie the game at 1-1.
The third and fourth sets then saw the Lions run out of steam, as the Rams won them by scores of 25-11 and 25-15 respectively to complete a 3-1 victory.
In the men’s game, the Lions also started slowly by losing their first set 25-21. The Lions then won the next two sets 26-24 and 25-16, to lead the game 2-1.
Surprisingly, the Lions were unable to hold on to one more set to seal the win, as Ryerson rallied to win the next set and tie the game at 2-2.
In the deciding set, the Rams edged the Lions 15-10 to seal their 3-2 victory.
Both teams will be hoping for better luck Friday, when they host the Nipissing Lakers at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., while the men begin at 8 p.m.
