The Lions field hockey team played three games over the weekend in Kingston, increasing their scoring output in each successive game.
The Lions’ first game resulted in a 0-0 tie with the U of T Varsity Blues on Saturday morning, which they followed with a 2-0 win over the Guelph Gryphons in the evening. Then, they had their best showing of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, easily dispatching the Queen’s Gael’s 5-0.
The Lions eased into their weekend schedule against the U of T Varsity Blues on Saturday morning, and perhaps due to fatigue from the drive, failed to score, finishing their first game 0-0.
York, however, came out stronger in the evening against the Guelph Gryphons, scoring one goal in both halves, courtesy of Natalie Maw in the 16th minute, and Prava Sandhu in the 49th minute, to secure a 2-0 victory.
After finally finding their rhythm, the Lions blitzed past the Queen’s Gael’s on Sunday, with OUA leading-scorer Jaslan Stirling leading the way with a hat-trick. Stirling scored York’s first three goals in the 28th, 48th, and 49th minutes.
Frankie St. Louis and Amber Sandhu added two more in the 52nd and 70th minutes, to complete the rout of the Gael’s, en route to the 5-0 victory.
