The Lions football team was on the road this week taking on the defending champion Western Mustangs in London.
Unfortunately for York, they were unable to build on their success from last week, as they fell to the Stangs 76-3.
The Mustangs started the game hot, as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the first.
The Lions got their only three points of the game on the scoreboard at the start of the second quarter, courtesy of kicker Dante Mastrogiuseppe’s career-long 44-yard field goal.
The Mustangs responded in the second quarter, first with a 42-yard field goal of their own, and then four consecutive touchdowns. Western finished the first half with a rouge to bring the score to 46-3.
York quarterback, Brett Hunchak, went down with an injury in the second, when a Mustang defender fell on him during a two-yard scramble. Hunchak was replaced by rookie quarterback, Noah Craney, for the rest of the game.
Western continued their rout of the Lions in the second half, adding 30 more points on the scoreboard to finish the game at 76-3, a humbling score-line for the Lions.
York will be looking to bounce back in their next game, when they travel to the nation’s capital, to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday September 22. Kick off is 1 p.m.
