badgers 3 vs lions 2

The men’s hockey season kicked off with a 3-2 loss to the Brock Badgers in St. Catherines. Outshot in the second period and down by one in the third, the Lions could not sneak past the Badgers defence in time to tie the score, losing their first game of the season. The Lions would get another chance to play the Badgers later on in the season, but would come out on the losing end again.

(Pippin Lee)

The team’s 3-0 comeback win became the Lions’ best game after losing to Lakehead in a previous match 5-2. York players Chris Jones and Adam Stuart together made two goals past the opponent’s netminder, followed by an unassisted goal by Chad Hohmann to make the final score 3-0. The game marked York goalie Travis Rolheiser’s first shutout, as he made 41 saves in total.

Mustangs 5 vs. Lions 0

(Pippin Lee)

A 5-0 loss to the Western Mustangs in the first week of November would kick off their first five-game losing streak, which would bury the team for the next few games. The loss came from the Lions inability to capitalize on any of their power plays and an overall weak performance. The Mustangs easily hanged on to their lead throughout and edged past the Lions.

Ravens 8 vs. Lions 0

(Pippin Lee)

In an embarrassing 8-0 loss to the Carleton Ravens, the York hockey players were pushed aside as the Ravens moved right on past. Carleton player Joey Manley scored twice in the game while Brandon MacLean ended the match with the last goal. The game marked another downward spiral for the York hockey players as they dropped lower in the standings.

Gryphons 1 vs. Lions 3
(Pippin Lee)

The latest win for York Lions gave hope to the team because it kept them in the race for a spot in the playoffs. York played aggressively and with consistency, which was the end factor in giving the Lions their much-needed win. Lions goalie Travis Rolheiser would also come up big with 35 saves. After losing their recent game 4-2, however, their hopes to make it to the playoffs vanished.
