WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Top shooter Brittany Szockyj finished with 21 points against the McMaster Marauders Nov. 13, giving the Lions their first win of the season with a score of 56-48. The girls would surpass their opponent in both the first and second period, when the Lions had an 11-point advantage.
The Lions are set to take on the Waterloo Warriors and the Laurier Golden Hawks this weekend in hopes of finding their second win of the season.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The York Lions faced two losses this week against the Lakehead Thunderwolves and McMaster Marauders. With a final score of 89-58, the Thunderwolves outplayed the Lions for a victorious 31-point lead whereas the Marauders toppled the Lions 79-62 on Nov. 13. The York Lions were down 10 points by the second quarter in their match against the Marauders and would not be able to catch up in the third and fourth. The key player for the Marauders was Scott Laws, who totalled 22 points by the end of the match.
The men play this week against rival Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
