Men’s BasketBall
The York Lions men’s basketball team took to the court Nov. 6 against rival Western Mustangs. The two opponents played a close, suspenseful game, but at the end of the day, York player David Tyndale led the Lions to a victory, 72-70. The two leading point-scorers of the night were Dejan Kravic and Tyndale, consistently the top players for the team. The two created solid rebounds, outwitting their opponents. Overall, the team was able to pull out a victory by outscoring their rival 15-8 in the third quarter and 24-22 in the last. The Lions will play the Lakehead Thunderwolves Nov. 12. This game will determine who moves up in the standings.
Men’s Hockey
In a fierce battle between the Western Mustangs and the York Lions men’s hockey team, the men lost 5-0 Nov. 4. The Lions were unable to find the net throughout the game and trailed 4-0 by the last period. The team had many opportunities to match their opponent’s score as penalties were given to their rival throughout the match; however, their inability to overcome West- ern goaltender Josh Unice left York scoreless. This game now puts the York Lions last in the standings with six losses and four wins. The team will face off with the Western Mustangs once again Nov. 11 in hopes of giving the Mustangs their first loss of the season.
Women’s Basketball
York Lions took another loss Nov. 6 as the Western Mustangs trampled them 64-41.Though York was able to take advantage of the traveling penalties Western received through- out the game, but ultimately, York failed to take control of the ball. In the second quarter, the Mustangs capitalized on their scoring oppor- tunities and pulled out 21 points against the Lions. The third quarter was York’s worst struggle, as they were overpowered once again, letting their opponent extend the score to 47-31. The team would not be able to make a comeback in the fourth, as the game finished with the Mustangs adding 17 points to their overall lead. The York players will get another chance to re- deem themselves as the Lions take on Lakehead Thunderwolves and McMaster Marauders Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 respectively.
