What to Expect When You’re Expecting to Return to Campus

(Riddhi Jani) Campus Update Fall 2022

A warm welcome from Excalibur to our new students and a welcome back to our old! After a long, yet short summer, comes the much anticipated start of the 2022/ 2023 year. As students begin the fall semester, comes the start of the university hustle.

And with the shift back to in-person learning on campus after a long 2 years, enters a new wave of excitement and angst among students.

The “Get Ready for Return to Campus” page on York’s  Better Together websites, dedicated to informing students, faculty, and staff on all COVID-19 updates, has released the most recent protocols and changes, such as where to access masks and rapid tests, as well as procedures for when students or faculty and staff are feeling unwell.

“The university would respond swiftly if the circumstances and public health directions changed,” says Yanni Dagonas, advisor and deputy spokesperson for York University.

As reported through York’s Better Together site, the university has paused all masking, vaccination, and screening requirements, yet still encourages their use, including proof of vaccination to YU Screen. The university has also opened its vaccine clinics to all students as of August 15th. Clinics are located throughout the Keele campus, Glendon campus and an additional one located on the Markham campus. More detailed information on addresses and hours of operation can be accessed here.

Further, York is increasing its COVID-19 support, through actions such as maximization of ventilation, and more thorough cleaning and case monitoring. Additional resources catering to students, faculty and staff such as food services, wellbeing and athletics and recreation, can be found on the Community Resources website.

Students moving into residences should also remember to complete their YU Screen profiles before their move-in date, any additional inquiries should be directed to the residence don or a Community Assistant. For any further inquiries, refer to the FAQs for Students.

Latest information regarding the fall term and York’s updated COVID-19 response can be found here and on the Better Together website, updated regularly.
Excalibur wishes everyone a successful transition back on campus and a great school year to come.
