The Lions men’s and women’s soccer teams were unable to accomplish much this weekend, as both teams tied their games against Windsor and Western.
York took on the Lancers Saturday evening in Windsor. The women played first, and neither team was able to find the net in the first half.
Windsor’s Abby Hunt opened the scoring in the second half with her sixth goal of the season, which came in the 49th minute.
The Lionesses looked like they were in danger of losing their first game of the season, until Stephanie Lamanna netted her first goal of the season in the 78th minute to salvage a point for York. The game ended at 1-1.
The men played next, but were unable to find their scoring touch. The silver lining: neither could Windsor.
The Lions had a handful of chances, but were unable to capitalize on any of them, and the game resulted in a tie.
York didn’t have time to rest, as the next day they travelled to London to face third-place Western.
The women played first, but were unable to get any offense going. The game ended in a scoreless tie.
The women have now tied their last three games, but have yet to be beaten this season.
In their second game of the weekend, the men finally managed to get on the scoreboard.
Jonathan Lao, the hero of last weekend’s game against Guelph, opened the scoring in the 24th minute with his third goal of the year.
Western answered in the 34th minute, which would be all the scoring for the game.
Despite not winning a game in their last three contests, the Lionesses, who are 6-0-3 on the season, are still in first in the Ontario University Athletics West Division with 21 points, two points ahead of second-place Western.
The men are firmly entrenched in first with 23 points, six ahead of second-place Guelph.
York’s road trip continues next weekend, as the Lions will be taking on the Warriors in Waterloo on Friday and then the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday, also in Waterloo.
You can catch the women’s games at 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Sunday, while the men play at 8:15 p.m. Friday and 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
