With its engaging characters and wildly dark plotlines, The Vampire Diaries has quickly emerged as part of television’s guilty pleasure line-up. The series’ soundtrack, now released on CD, both lives up to the standards of the show and parallels its intrigue. Given its premise, it’s just what you would expect.
The disc doesn’t take the typical route and just one genre of sounds – instead, it balances a variety of tunes. The tracks are a perfect mixture of edgy and vibrant sounds: Sky Fereirra’s “Obession,” the Smashing Pumpkins’ “The Fellowship” and Silversun Pickups’ “Currency of Love.”
Listeners will also get caught up with tunes that’ll sound quite familiar if they’re on board with weekly episodes of the show: the sinister and ingenious sounds of Michael Suby open and close the soundtrack.
However, there are two songs in particular that ring true to the core of the series. “Bloodstream” by Stateless offers a soft yet dark melody that exudes the mysteries surrounding the needs, wants and desire between two individuals. Jason Walker’s “Down” is similar; it’s a great ballad that touches on the expectations and complications of the human heart when love is sometimes not enough.
A mixture of soft and hard sounds, this soundtrack will connect strongly with anyone who watches the show.
