Chromeo, the electro-funk duo composed of David Macklovitch, a.k.a Dave 1, and Patrick Gemayel, a.k.a P-Thugg, represent Montreal the only way they know how – through keyboards, talk boxes and an all-around retro sound. Their synthesizer-heavy, 80s-esque tunes hit the mainstream airwaves in 2007 with their second studio album, Fancy Footwork.

I consider myself a shy person and a somewhat introverted music lover. So when a band comes along that makes me want to dance, no matter where I am and no matter when, that’s something out of the ordinary.

When I heard Chromeo was returning to the studio for a new album, I was ecstatic and ready to hit the dance floor with some new moves.

Chromeo’s third album, Business Casual, continues to develop the sound they’ve been bringing us since their 2004 debut, She’s In Control. Their second single, “Don’t Turn the Lights On,” got most of my attention as it was the first track from the album I had heard. I found myself listening to it over and over for quite a lengthy period of time, and for a while it was hard to break this cycle since I enjoyed it so much. Eventually, though, I moved on to the catchy and upbeat tune “I’m Not Contagious,” which eventually grew on me, as did several other tracks.

Business Casual is fun and flirty with a mixture of upbeat tunes such as “Night By Night” and slower tracks like “Don’t Walk Away” that extenuate the troubles of love. It took me a while to get past the thrills of “Don’t Turn the Lights On,” but after several listens I found myself also humming to other tracks such as “You Make It Rough.”

Business Casual is not as strong and memorable as Fancy Footwork, but it is still enjoyable and will definitely keep your feet moving on the dance floor until the dawn.

Business Casual was released on Sept.13.
