Re-opening of a Ghost Town

RE-OPENING OF A GHOST TOWN:
The Journal of a Daily Commuter through the Months of a Lockdown in Downtown Toronto
Seen on Line 1 | Shot in iPhone

With edits from Nachiket Jain

Vacant bus stops, a deserted Union Station, and eerie ghost trains running through a usually-bustling Line 1 — needless to say, Toronto is looking very different right now. The closed-off system is haunting compared to its usual commotion, as the last six months have marked the first time the city’s rush hour was clocked by little to no ridership on its subways. Here are six photos of Toronto that show the desolate state that the city’s public transit finds itself in, six months into a global pandemic. Each photo is captured a month apart, while the system starts to show signs of life as riders slowly return for the city’s re-opening, only to be hit back by a potential second wave.
