After a disappointing football season that left the York Lions fruitless, head coach Warren Craney and his staff are adding ten new recruits to the roster in hopes of making a much-needed change.
“We knew our first priority was to turn this program around, and size is something we didn’t have last year,” said Craney. “We were a very small football team and I think we’ve ad- dressed the size right away.”
Seven of the ten recruits who come straight from the Greater Toronto area, and have finished their high school careers with impressive football titles.

“I think it should be fun. In football, you definitely need strength: you got to be strong to block; you got to be strong to hit. It’s about strength and speed.”

“I got a lot of family history here in North York: I’ve had family come here, and I’ve had a lot of friends come here. I think we’re going to have a pretty good season this year.”

“I’ve looked at other universities, but all the time I’ve been at a game, York has always been there. They’ve always talked to me. It’s around the corner, and it’s a good school.”

“Stopping the run – that’s what I’m best at. York could use bigger guys, and they could use some muscles.”

“Coming from Concordia with Coach Craney, I like the guy; I like his system. It was also about being close to home, being close to friends and family that helped me make my decision.”

“A lot of my family lives in Toronto. The goal is to help make this program better, in particular the line aspect where they’re hurting and they need new people.”

“We want to turn this program around. From 0-8, we can hopefully go up to 7-1 or 6-2 and make the playoffs.”
