The Lions men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted and defeated the Nipissing Lakers at Tait McKenzie last Friday. The women won in straight sets, while the men won three sets to one.
The women played first, taking control of the game early, winning the first set 25-17. Despite a closer second set, the Lions came out on top, as they cruised to the 25-17 win in the first. They then finished out the game in style, taking the last set 25-15, and completing their straight-set victory.
The men built on the women’s success, taking the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21, respectively. The Lakers fought back to win the third set 25-19. However, the Lions thwarted any attempt at a comeback, winning the fourth set 25-19 to secure a 3-1 win.
Kayla Clennon was the top performer for the women with 12 kills and 16.5 points, while the men’s standout performers were Andrew Tauhid with 11 kills and 16.5 points, and Aleksander Grzegorczyk with 9 kills and 12.5 points.
Both teams are hoping to extend their winning ways tomorrow when they head back on the road to face the Waterloo Warriors. The women play at 12 p.m., while the men play at 2 p.m.
