It was setback after setback for the Lions men’s and women’s basketball teams as they visited the nation’s capital this past weekend, losing all four games to the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens.
Both teams took on Ottawa last Friday. The women played first, losing 88-58 to a Gee-Gees team that shot the lights out.
The Lions started on the back foot, as Ottawa poured in 27 first-quarter points, while limiting the Lions to just 13.
The Lions were unable to catch up to the Gee-Gees for the rest of the game, as Ottawa increased their lead to 50-34 by the end of the second quarter, and added 38 more points in the third and fourth to finish with an 88-58 victory.
The men took to the court next and fell to the Gee-Gees in similar fashion. Ottawa claimed a 22-12 lead in the first quarter and cantered away, with the Lions failing to top them for points in any of the quarters. As the Gee-Gees cruised to the 92-58 victory.
On Saturday, the Carleton Ravens continued where Ottawa left off. Again the women played first, and again, the Ravens led at the end of one.
The Ravens proved to be a tough opponent, easily dispatching the Lions 17-13 and 16-6 in the second and third quarters.
The Lions outscored the Ravens 20-19 in the last quarter, but it was too little too late, as the Ravens finished with a 71-50 win.
In the men’s game, the performance gap was even wider, as the Lions lost by a final score of 100-54.
The Ravens were well-coached on both ends of the court, as they scored 20 or more in every quarter, while limiting the Lions to just 23 first-half points, en route to the 100-54 victory.
With the losses, the women now sit in sixth in the OUA East standings, while the men are in seventh place in the.
Both teams will be hoping to move past their poor Ottawa outing when they take on the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Nipissing Lakers at home this weekend. Tip off is at 11 a.m. for the women and 1 p.m. for the men today, while tomorrow’s games tip-off at 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men.
