The men’s and women’s volleyball teams each had a pair of games this weekend against Brock and McMaster.
On Friday the men played host to the last-place Brock Badgers, who had won five straight games going into their match against York.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle that needed extras, as Brock eventually took the set 27-25. However, it was the only one they would win in the match, as York reeled off three straight wins: 25-20, 25-15, and 25-22, en route to the 3-1 victory.
The Lions were led by Andrew Shotbolt, who recorded 15.5 points and 15 kills, with a kill percentage of 33.3.
On Sunday, the Lions were looking to build on their success against the McMaster Marauders.
The Marauders jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-17. However, the Lions answered in the second, winning the set 25-16, evening the match at one.
Unfortunately for the Lions, it was their only win of the day, as they dropped the third and fourth sets 28-26 and 25-22, losing three sets to one.
The Lions were led by Shotbolt once again, who recorded 16 points and 14 kills in the loss.
The women’s team dropped both their games this weekend, however, they’re just two points back of Nipissing for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Both teams will be back in action next weekend, when they’ll be taking on Nipissing and Trent. The women’s games start at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m., while the men’s are scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m.
