The women’s volleyball team was in Thunder Bay on Saturday, taking on the Lakehead Thunderwolves while the men had the weekend off.
The Lions didn’t get off to the start they would have liked, as they dropped the first set 25-20 to the Thunderwolves.
The second set was much closer, as both teams went point-for-point, waiting for the other to blink first. Unfortunately, it was the Lions who did, as they dropped the set 25-23.
In the third, York came out with a little more energy and took the set easily—25-19.
However, all their hopes of a comeback died in the fourth, as Lakehead was able to shut the door on the game with a decisive 25-18 win.
York was led by Heather Setka, who recorded 15.5 points and 12 kills.
Despite the loss, the Lions are still fourth in the OUA, six points behind third-place U of T, but just two points ahead of surging Nipissing.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action next weekend—kicking off a three-game homestand—when they’ll be taking on the Brock Badgers on Friday, and the McMaster Marauders on Sunday.
The women will be playing on Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., while the men play at 8 p.m. on Friday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
