The first third of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons are over, yet both the Lions and Lionesses are in the bottom of their basketball divisions.
The men have four points on two wins, while the women have two points thanks to their win over Algoma.
The men, who have lost their last four games, are only six points behind U of T and Queen’s, who are tied for second with 10 points, and 10 points behind first-place Ryerson. They will have opportunities to end their fourgame skid this weekend, as they’ll be taking on the 4-4 Windsor Lancers on Friday, and then the 1-7 Western Mustangs on Saturday.
Next week, the Lions will have the chance to gain some ground on their cross-town rivals, U of T and Ryerson.
The men’s largest margin of defeat was 22 points, which came at the hands of the second-place Gryphons.
The women, who have struggled so far this season, face a tougher challenge this weekend, as both the Windsor and Western women’s teams have winning records. The Lancers are 7-1 and first in their division, while the Mustangs are 5-3 and third in their division.
However, if the Lionesses can pull off a win against either of their next two opponents, it could provide them with a confidence boost and some momentum going into important division matchups against U of T and Ryerson next weekend.
Despite their 1-5 record, the season is far from over.
