Whether it is body art designs or that perfectly curated Instagram feed, York students are colourfully painting their realities through art. Here’s a list of the top five types of artists you might encounter at York or even recognize in yourself.
1. The Explorer
Explorers see the natural landscape of the world as their canvas. They are the ones you are most-likely jealous of because they are literally anywhere and everywhere around the world. From Paris to New York, the Explorer basks in the glory of leaving their viewers fuming in envy as they post a fresh photo of the Caribbean sunset or drinking tea with a side of biscuits in London while we trek through the snow.
2. The Fleeker
These artists always look flawless as they use their face as their canvas. Eyebrows are always on fleek. Contour is slayed. Highlight glows like the gods are shining their light from the heavens above. Eye shadow blended like Da Vinci did it himself. Eyeliner wing so sharp it could cut someone. Trust me, their makeup will leave you staring in awe.
3. The MJ Incarnate
Usually referred to as dancers, MJ Incarnates will dance to anything, anywhere, anytime, whether that be in the middle of Vari Hall, or in the Student Centre practicing for the upcoming talent show. Some of them love their craft so much, they will resort to dancing to the music playing in their imaginations. You can always catch them turning the simplest movements into a dance. Every moment spent with them will feel like a party.
4. The Snaptisté
These artists make their whole life a work of art. Snaptistés can be found all over campus, recording everything from their regular trips to campus art galleries, to their at-home creations. These artists like to find beauty in the lives of those around them, which might explain why they are rarely seen in their own work.
5. The Wonder Child
We all know a person who has a song for every situation and knows the words to every song. These musical geniuses always carry a speaker in their bags and are the only people you don’t mind giving the auxiliary cord to. Wonder Childs have songs ranging from James Brown, Tupac, Boyz II Men, Adele, all the way to Future. You can guarantee that things will always be “lit” when you’re around them.
