UPDATE: Vari Hall has reopened, with classes resuming for 7 p.m.
Vari Hall on Keele Campus was evacuated earlier this afternoon as a precaution due to a suspicious briefcase left in a second-floor women’s washroom, according to York Media and Toronto Police.
The YorkU Safety App sent out a broadcast at approximately 1:41 p.m., instructing people to exit Vari Hall immediately using nearest and safest exit. Mention of the emergency was seen as early as a tweet published at 1:36 p.m. As of 5:55 p.m., Vari Hall has officially reopened, with classes scheduled for 7 p.m. resuming.
According to CP24, the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) team is responding, with Chopper 24 flying over Vari Hall.
York University News asked people to avoid Vari Hall. Classes normally scheduled between 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Vari Hall have been cancelled.
