York students weigh in on where the Blue Jay's run came from and where it’s headed

Let’s go Blue Jays!
This past Saturday, the Toronto Blue Jays scored a 15-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers at the Rogers Centre. It was the Jays’ 23rd win out of their last 28 games. It was also the Jays’ 21st game this season in which they scored more than 10 runs, a record to put the team far ahead of the rest of the league. At York, students are starting to pick up on Jay fever.
[su_quote]“As opposed to last season, the Jays have a balanced team with good pitching, excellent offence, and skilled defence,” says Diana Edelhauser, a York communications student.[/su_quote]
“Team chemistry also seems to have improved, especially with Tulowitzki joining the team.”
Denis Wais, a history student agrees and cites the new trade deadline additions as the source of their success.
“The team chemistry has really shaped well, and it shows on the field,” he says.
Will the Jays be able to keep their current momentum going all the way through the rest of the season and into the playoffs?
“Maybe not the nine or 15 runs we saw in the past few games, but they will definitely keep this up,” says Jaabir Patel, an English literature student.
York students are cautiously optimistic, and add that we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves and develop some unrealistic expectations.
[su_quote]“My only fear is that the Jays won’t be able to break their 11-game curse given that the pressure is so immense on the team and felt so emotionally by the fans,” says Edelhauser.[/su_quote]
Regardless of which way the Jays’ run is headed, York students are ready to stand by their city’s team. “In Toronto, we love to get behind our teams,” says Edelhauser.
“We support them in such a way that only Toronto fans can.”
