Students we’re able to pick up heading piles of poutine and delicious pastries on this past Food Truck Tuesday.

Time to dig in York.

A wide range of gourmet food trucks have graced campus this term on Food Truck Tuesdays. Smoke’s Poutinerie and Beaver Tails each made their mark this past Tuesday.

Located just east of Williams Small, these food trucks served up heaping portions of pastries and poutine to the many students and faculty on campus. After food trucks made an appearance on campus for York football games, students have shown their interest and requested that they set up shop at York more often.

“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback,” says Anthony Barbisan, director of YU-card, food and parking services at York.

“It’s something fun we are trying for this term,” says Barbisan. “Every truck is different and I encourage people to come out and give it a try.”

Barbisan notes that each trucks pays a small booking fee to appear on campus, and is encouraged by the school to keep prices student friendly.

“We indicate to them that it’s a student market,” he adds. “We’re trying to have prices that are affordable, and they have responded with a range of menu offerings. But at the same time people don’t mind paying a little extra if it’s local or more substantial like a steak sandwich.”

York has taken great steps to offer up a wide range of food options for students on campus. Barbisan notes that with these food trucks, the menu offerings usually lay on the more “indulgent side.”

Depending on the nature of each truck, students can also expect vegetarian offerings.

“We try to encourage them to have a range of offerings to accommodate the community,” says Barbisan. “Some of the trucks have quite a following of their own, students seem to be having a lot of fun with them.”

York has been planning Food Truck Tuesdays since the summer months, putting out calls to various trucks within Toronto. The selection process has heavily relied on the availability of each truck, as many trucks have seen a recent spike in popularity within the Toronto area.

Students can expect Gourmet Gringos and Choco Churros on November 19, with another round of trucks showing up on campus for Red and White day on November 27.
