Being queer and trans is something to be celebrated, not hidden away.
Our community is so diverse, with so many subcultures represented, that it was important for me to take a different approach to this supplement. I wanted to focus on what it truly means to be queer and trans in Toronto, as well as at York University, from a modern, urban point- of-view. Each section of the supplement is dedicated to bringing you the best advice and information; we aim to teach you something new.
Are you unlucky in love? Check out our Hopeless Romantic section, where a relationship and dating expert teaches you how to get and keep the person of your dreams. They will also break down a few of the many labels we have in the community.
In this issue’s centrespread piece, “If You Really Knew Me,” you’ll get up close and personal with a few members of our York community, and will find out what being queer in the city means to them.
Then, I’ll introduce you to my fab family: you can learn what it means to be a Monroe and why it was so important for many of us to create that solid foundation in our lives.
As a community, we all relate to serious issues that affect the queer and trans culture, which is why we’ve an interesting take on the “It Gets Better” campaign you’ve likely read all about.
Lastly, we have a few “Simply Fab” articles that will help you find the must-reads, discover the must-sees and meet those lovely divas our community just lives for.
Sit back, relax and enjoy Queer in the City, the 2010 Excalibur Queer and Trans Supplement.
