Brian Dickson to appear back in court January 30

The main suspect in York’s Village murder case was denied bail January 5.
Brian Dickson, who was active in York’s political scene and dabbled in acting, now stands on trial for the first-degree murder of 23-year-old international student Qian “Necole” Liu April 2011. The evidence from the case, says Constable Wendy Drummond of Toronto police, is under a publication ban.
Dickson, now 30 years old, is said to have not shown any reaction when Ontario Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy denied his bail application. Both parents were in attendance.
This incident garnered international attention, and shocked most students and residents at York. With the community questioning the safety of the school and of the surrounding housing complexes in the Village, York has applied more safety regulations and has introduced more village shuttle buses for students traveling at night.
Nearly nine months after Liu’s death, police still do not have any new updates concerning this case, according to Drummond. They have yet to release any autopsy results or the cause of her death.
“We currently are not looking for any other suspects,” says Drummond.
Dickson’s preliminary hearing is set to begin January 30.
